Barbara Moore
Co-Founder and Board Member, Jubilee Housing
I have known Jim for all the years he has been a part of Jubilee Housing. I most love picturing him at Tryst on 18th Street early in the morning having his tea, doing his prayers, and working on his computer for his many tasks at Jubilee Housing or his little church. Jim got to know many folks there, some of whom have connected in meaningful ways with the work at Jubilee. Tryst’s management even named one of its delicious sandwiches after him for quite a while!
In addition, Jim has worked hard to balance the demands of work with his dedication to his family. I have known him since he was married and have babysat for his children many times when they were younger. He is very dedicated to both and works hard to maintain a good balance.
I have other memories that stay with me about Jim: protesting at the District building, testifying before the City Council, reading to children in Jubilee’s Youth Services programs, high-fiving Jubilee to College scholarship recipients, spending whole days going through countless architectural renderings, and sitting quietly comforting residents in sorrowful moments.
Perhaps the thing I admire most about Jim is his willingness to look at his growing edges, and to focus on areas where he needs and wants to improve. We all have these growing edges, even our wonderful Jim. He is taking them seriously. We are blessed.
In celebration of Jim Knight’s 20th year leading Jubilee Housing, we invited several of Jim’s colleagues and friends to share reflections on meaningful moments.
