We are brimming with excitement and gratitude as we watch the newly renovated Maycroft Apartments open its doors to residents and families! After a long battle against forces that would have priced original residents out of the restored building, the Maycroft is open, and original residents are moving in along with other families and individuals for whom market rents are otherwise out of reach in the thriving Columbia Heights neighborhood.
As I’ve walked Jubilee’s Adams Morgan, Mount Pleasant, and Columbia Heights neighborhoods for the better part of two decades, the question of who lives here—who is able to live here—has never been more pressing. Read more...
Jubilee Youth Services Learns to Code
While Jubilee Housing Director of Youth Services, Audrey Walker, was shopping at Pentagon City Mall, she stopped in the Microsoft store and sparked up a conversation with the community director about Jubilee Youth Services’ (JYS) focus on STEAM ( science, technology , engineering, arts, mathematics) as an educational approach for our youth programming. Barbara Moore has put in a lot of miles in these neighborhoods over the years. As one of Jubilee Housing’s founders, long serving staff, and board member, she has walked the streets of the Adams Morgan for decades. Her speedy gait is recognized from a distance, and Barbara is known for her trademark, year-round SAS (San Antonio) sandals. Affordable Housing and Energy Resiliency
On May 1st, Jubilee Housing, New Partners Community Solar Corp., the Department of Energy and Environment, and Pepco, launched the District’s first affordable housing resiliency center powered by solar+battery storage at the Maycroft Apartments.
The Resiliency Center, powered by Pepco for the Jubilee Community, will provide three days of power for the residents should the electrical grid go down. Read more...
