In 1973, a small, committed group of volunteers banded together to purchase and renovate two dilapidated apartment buildings for residents in the heart of Adams Morgan. Our founders chose the name Jubilee Housing to anchor the work in the transformational vision of the Jubilee Year — a 50-year cycle of renewal, resetting, and justice. Much like the climate of today, they did this in an era when the economy did not work for everyone. They knew their vision had the power to disrupt the status quo and bring generative change.
Today, Jubilee Housing is a diverse, compassionate community of more than 1,000 unique individuals supported by Justice Housing®: deeply affordable housing with wraparound services in thriving neighborhoods.
As we prepare for our Jubilee Year, we are overlaying our Justice Housing® work with principles from our founders’ vision to deliver the greatest possible impact. On November 14, we will celebrate 50 years and commit to the work ahead.
